SUU Pitching Limits Centenary; Ladies Fall in Double Dish

SHREVEPORT-The Centenary softball team was held to one run in two games as it fell 6-0 in Game 1 and 6-1 in Game 2 to Southern Utah in Summit League play on Friday afternoon.

The Ladies dropped to 2-19 overall and 1-7 in conference play with the two losses.

Game 1: Southern Utah 6, Centenary 0

Southern Utah's Heather Black struck out 14 Centenary hitters to cruise to 6-0 shutout win in Game 1. The Ladies connected on four hits, but struggled to find an offensive spark and were held without a run.

Sophomore Jenny King (2x3) led the Ladies with two hits, while sophomore Bailey Boggs (1x3) and junior Kalyn Harris (1x3) each had a hit apiece.

Senior Lauren Highsmith (1.0,5,5,5,0,2) took the loss in Game 1 after tossing 1.0 inning as the starter. The righty allowed five runs on five hits, while striking out two.

Freshman Lynsi Unruh (6.0,2,1,1,3,2) had a strong relief appearance, holding Southern Utah to one run on two hits and three walks in 6.0 solid innings. The righty fanned two.

Southern Utah went up 6-0 after the first two innings as it plated three in each frame.

The Ladies didn't record a hit until Boggs singled to third base in the bottom of the fourth.

Game 2: Southern Utah 6, Centenary 1

Sophomore Kelsey Regan (1x3, R, RBI) belted her first home run of the season on a long ball to left field in the bottom of the seventh for the Ladies first run of the day, but it wasn't enough as Centenary fell in Game 2 as well.

The Ladies were led at the plate by freshman Nicole Warren (2x3) with two doubles and junior Reggie Salvatore (2x3) with two singles.

Highsmith (6.2,7,6,6,7,3) took the mound as the starter again, but would drop to 2-14 on the year with her second loss of the day. In 6.2 innings of work, Highsmith allowed six runs on seven hits and seven walks with three strikeouts.

Unruh (0.1,1,0,0,0,1) pitched 0.1 innings of relief, giving up one hit with one strikeout.

Southern Utah plated two runs in the second and a run in the third on four hits, including two home runs. The Thunderbirds would then score three in the fifth to take a 6-0 lead on three hits including another home run by Brittany Henderson.

Regan belted a home run in the seventh for the Ladies only run.
