PREVIEW: Softball Travels to LSUA for Midweek Contest

SHREVEPORT-The Centenary softball team will play a single midweek contest on Wednesday at 5 pm at LSU-Alexandria in non-conference action before gearing up for Summit League foe, UMKC this weekend at home.

The Ladies are coming off a 9-2 victory over league foe, Oakland on Saturday, which snapped a 10-game losing skid. With that win, Centenary improved to 3-22 overall on the season.

Leading the way offensively is senior Bonnie Matak with her .306 average, 15 hits, five doubles, two home runs and five stolen bases. Following her is junior Reggie Salvatore with a .259 clip. As a team, the Ladies are hitting just .196 through 25 games and the biggest struggle seems to be strikeouts with 161 as a squad.

On the mound for Centenary and leading the way with 21 game starts in senior Lauren Highsmith. The righty is 2-16 overall and records a 10.30 ERA. Freshman Lynsi Unruh holds the team's lowest ERA at 7.35 and a record of 1-5 after notching her first collegiate victory at Oakland.

LSUA is looking to snap its 27-game losing skid as its last win came back on Feb. 23 against Texas College. The Generals are coming off a double-header loss at UH-Victoria on March 26. Leading the way offensively is Calla Wiloughby with a .329 average. Courtney Kennedy paces the team with 20 games pitched a team-best 4.09 ERA, but is 3-14 on the season with one save in 97.2 innings pitched.

Centenary and LSUA will meet for the first time in history on Wednesday. The two teams will meet later on April 29 at 4 pm at the Centenary Softball Complex.

Centenary will host UMKC on Saturday and Sunday in Summit League action. Game times are set for a double-header on Saturday at 2 pm/4 pm and Sunday at 10 am. All games will be available via live stats on www.GoCentenary.com.
