IPFW Sweeps Ladies in Final Home Series

SHREVEPORT-The Centenary softball team dropped the final game of the series 10-2 against Summit League foe IPFW on Saturday afternoon at the Centenary Softball Complex.

The Ladies fell to 4-29 overall and 2-16 in league play they wrapped up Summit League play at home.

The Mastodons were able to plate six runs throughout the first four innings before the Ladies scored their only two of the game in the bottom of the fifth. 

IPFW opened up the first frame with one run on two hits, while Centenary was held scoreless. The Ladies continued to search for a run as the Mastodons put two across in the top of the third and three across in the top of the fourth, leading 6-0 before the Ladies could make a mark. Mastodon starter Courtney Cronin had a no-hitter going through the first four innings.

The bottom of the fifth began with a walk from sophomore Kelsey Regan followed by a walk from junior Leah Dark.  With two on, freshman Jenny King singled up the middle to center field, advancing both runners.  Freshman Nicole Warren was able to watch four balls go by for another walk and an RBI as Regan crossed home plate for the Ladies first run of the game.

Centenary's last run of the game came in the fifth as well.  Freshman Brittany Lafitte reached on an IPFW error.  With that, Dark plated the second run of the game for the Ladies.

IPFW responded with a run in the top of the sixth and put the game away with three runs in the top of the seventh for a 10-2 win.

Centenary connected on four hits, led by King with a 2-for-3 effort. Warren (1x2, RBI) and Regan (1x2, R) each contributed with a knock.

Senior Lauren Highsmith (3.2,3,5,4,3,1) suffered the loss, tossing 3.2 innings as the Ladies starter. The righty allowed four earned runs on three hits and three walks.

Freshman Lynsi Unruh (2.1,3,4,4,3,1) pitched 2.1 innings in relief, allowing four runs on three hits, while junior Reggie Salvatore (1.0,1,1,1,1,0) tossed the final inning, allowing one run on one hit and one walk.

Cronin (7.0,4,2,1,6,7) picked up her second win of the series, throwing a complete game, allowing one earned run on four hits and six walks with seven strikeouts.

The Ladies will travel to Central Arkansas on Wednesday, April 20 for a 6 pm mid-week contest before returning to Summit League play at Western Illinois next weekend.
