PREVIEW: Ladies at Central Arkansas, Wednesday

SHREVEPORT-The Centenary softball team will hit the road for four straight games as its first stop is non-conference opponent, Central Arkansas in Conway, Ark. on Wednesday at 6 pm.

The Ladies are looking to grab a victory after having dropped their last seven contests, including being swept by Summit League foe IPFW this last weekend at home.

Pacing the Ladies at the plate with a .324 average is senior Bonnie Matak. The outfielder leads the team in hits (23), runs scored (12), doubles (7), home runs (4), total bases (42), walks (10) and stolen bases (5-8).

As a team, Centenary is struggling at the plate with a .195 clip. Freshman Chandelle Scott is second in average with a .231 mark, while sophomore Jenny King is hitting .227. Junior Kalyn Harris paces the team with 13 RBI.

On the mound, freshman Lynsi Unruh is 2-6 with a team-low 6.67 ERA through 81.0 innings pitched. Senior Lauren Highsmith has seen 27 starts and 104.0 innings this season, but holds a record of 2-22 and an ERA of 10.90.

UCA is 20-26 entering Wednesday's game with a 13-5 mark at home. The Sugar Bears are led offensively by Melanie Bryant's .426 average, seven home runs and 36 RBI. Kelsie Armstrong is 12-18 on the mound for UCA with a team-low 2.20 ERA.

Centenary and UCA will meet for the second time this season and fifth time in history. The series is tied at 2-2 as the Sugar Bears grabbed the 4-2 win earlier this season in Shreveport. In that game, Centenary's Jenny King and UCA's Melanie Bryant were each 3-for-3.

Following Wednesday's game, Centenary will continue on the road as it heads to Macomb, Ill. to play Western Illinois in a three-game Summit League series this weekend.
