NDSU's Johnson Shuts Down Ladies

FARGO, ND-In its final series of the 2011 season, the Centenary softball team was shut out and held to two hits on the afternoon by North Dakota State in Friday's double-header, falling 9-0 in five innings and 8-0 in six innings.

The Ladies dropped to 5-35 and 2-11 in Summit League play with the two losses.

Game 1: NDSU 9, Centenary 0 (5 innings)

NDSU starter Whitney Johnson held Centenary had just one hit off the bat of freshman lead off hitter, Nicole Warren.

NDSU pounded out eight hits, including two long balls.

Freshman Lynsi Unruh (4.0,8,9,9,5,2) suffered the loss after allowing nine runs on eight hits and five walks with two strikeouts in 4.0 innings of work.

The Bison grabbed a 6-0 lead after three innings, before plating three more in the fourth for the mercy-rule win.

Game 2: NDSU 8, Centenary 0 (6 innings)

NDSU's Johnson tossed another shutout victory, giving up just one hit to Centenary sophomore Kelsey Regan.

Johnson fanned 12 in Game 2 for 23 total strikeouts on the day.

Centenary's Unruh (4.0,8,7,7,4,0) took the loss in Game 2 as well, after allowing seven runs on eight hits and four walks. Junior Reggie Salvatore (1.0,2,1,1,2,0) pitched the final inning, surrendering one run on two hits and two walks.

NDSU took a 5-0 lead after the third, before scoring three more over the fifth and sixth for its second mercy-rule win of the day.
