SHREVEPORT-An all-around solid performance on both offense and defense propelled the Centenary women's soccer team to a 1-0 shutout victory over Millsaps College on Sunday afternoon on Mayo Field.

With the win, the Ladies improved to 3-4-0 on the season and have now notched back-to-back 1-0 wins this week.

Centenary received the game-winning goal off the foot of senior Kortney Causey at the 16-minute mark when the ball rolled slowly past the goal line to put the Ladies up 1-0.

A strong defensive effort led by senior Catie Depew held Millsaps to just nine total shots on the day, two of which came in the first half. In the back, Depew made several key blocks to keep the Majors from tying the game on several late shot attempts.

Centenary managed to fire off a 20 shots, 10 of which landed on goal for a solid .500 SOG percentage. Sophomore Holden Penney put up a team-best six shots, three on goal, while junior Candace Rushing added three shots, one on goal.

Also contributing to goal attempts were sophomores Allie Cortes, Kelly Fossard, juniors Laura Immenschuh, and Traci Lee with two shots, while sophomore Courtney Cleveland added one.

Causey's goal marked her third goal of the season and second game-winner of the week.

Junior keeper Kalyn Harris was challenged late in goal, but made five stops for the win, improving to 3-3-0 on the year.

"We played much better today as we were able to find open space and open feet to make some strong offensive efforts," said head coach Glenn Evans.

"I was also impressed with our defensive play late in the game as Catie [Depew] showcased a top-notch effort."

Centenary will return to action on Friday when it takes on Mississippi Valley State at 7 pm on the road, followed by a Sunday afternoon game against Jackson State at 2 pm to wrap up non-conference play.
