SHREVEPORT-The 2010-11 swimming season will kick off on Saturday when the Ladies and Gents combine to host their annual Centenary Maroon & White Intrasquad scrimmage at 2 pm in Haynes Fitness Center.

Centenary welcomes alumni and fans of Ladies and Gents swimming to take part in the annual event as each swimmer will contribute in some way throughout the meet.

"It will be a fun meet for our kids.  The format is designed for fun.  Of course we are looking forward to seeing our freshmen compete," said head coach Butch Jordan.

The intrasquad is designed to showcase and evaluate the current swimmers and their progress throughout the preseason.

"For the coaches the meet will give us some insight on how our preparation is going.  We are doing general conditioning so the emphasis on setting a base for the season," said Jordan.

"The short events will be as much for getting the kids into a racing mindset more than to test our conditioning," said Jordan.

Saturday will officially jumpstart the 2010-11 season as Centenary is schedule to participate in nine total events, including The Summit League Championships at the end of the season.

"With three home meets this season,  our first home meet in the fall semester will have multiple teams competing so that is always fun. The second spring semester meets will feature tough competition from UNO, TCU and Ouachita Baptist," said Jordan.

"We have a great group of kids that have pride in what they do in the pool so our spectators can expect our kids to be tough in head to head competition."

Following Saturday's event, Centenary swimmers will take part in a softball game featuring the old vs. new swimmers.
