SHREVEPORT-The Centenary volleyball team wasn't able to maintain offensive consistency against South Dakota State as they fell 3-0 to the Jackrabbits on Friday evening in Summit League play.

The Ladies (3-9, 0-5 Summit) were still looking for their first league win, but fell short in three straight sets by 25-18, 25-16, and 25-13.

In set one, South Dakota State took an early lead, but Centenary received momentum several kills by juniors Stevie Kaye and Jaclyn Lopez, as well as sophomore Shelby Singleton to power back and take over the set at 9-7.

Several attack errors put the Ladies in jeopardy of surrendering their mid-set lead, while the Jackrabbits added some strong kills. SDSU saw a comfortable advantage until Centenary used a Jackrabbit service error to narrow the score within two at 20-18. Five straight errors to end by Centenary led to a first-set loss.

The second set gave way to a strong offensive performance by SDSU as they racked up 17 total kills on 33 attacks for a .424 attack percentage to the Ladies' .103. It was a back-and-forth battle from the beginning until midway when the Jackrabbits broke through with four-of-five successful kills to go up 15-10.

Despite tallying 10 kills as a team, Centenary wasn't able to gain an advantage as SDSU continued to stay consistent.

The final third set showcased an almost errorless set for the Jackrabbits, while Centenary committed 10. Four kills by SDSU and consecutive attacking errors by the Ladies put the visiting team up 14-7.

Four of the final five possessions were miscues for Centenary, which led to a sweep for SDSU.

Centenary was led offensively by Kaye with 15 kills and senior Bethany Kern with eight. Junior Caitlin Neese contributed with 25 assists as the setter, while Lopez, defensively tallied 13 digs.

The Ladies will be back in action on Sunday when they host North Dakota State at 3 pm in the Gold Dome.
