Swimming Intrasquad Showcased High Hopes for Season

SHREVEPORT-The Centenary swimming teams combined to take participate in its annual Maroon and White Intrasquad Meet on Saturday afternoon to showcase the talent for the upcoming season. The White team edged the White, 128-126.

The Ladies received an all-around great performance as freshman Rachel Olson recorded her name in the Top 10 Times in the 100 Back (1:02.35) and the 200 IM (2:13.02) where she was victorious.

Opening up the day with a win in the 200 yard medley relay was Kate Rivers, Brittany Wilkens, Olson, and Hayley Schneider of the White team with a time of 1:55.54.

Lauren Lassiter captured first in the 50 yard Back (29.51), while Cassie Cloutet took first in the 200 yard Free (1:59.53).

Wilkens secured a victory in the 100 yard Breast (1:10.13) and the 50 yard Breast (33.39) and Schneider won the 50 yard Butterfly (28.42). Also, taking top honors in their respective events were Michelle Gaubert in the 50 yard Free (25.93) and Laura Huning in the 100 yard Butterfly (1:02.59).

In the 200 yard Freestyle relay, Cloutet, Gaubert, Huning and Allison Jones of the Maroon team won with a time of 1:44.68.

For the Gents, the Maroon 200 yard medley relay team of Peter Henry, Ryne Smith, Devin Ross, and Anthony LeBlanc took first in 1:37.11.

Several Gents captured first in multiple events highlighted by Ross Olivier with two wins in the 50 yard Back (25.16) and the 100 yard Back (55.42), while Ross won the 50 yard Butterfly (23.03) and the 50 yard Freestyle (21.41) and John Cefalu finished first in the 100 yard Breast (1:00.52) and the 50 yard Breast (26.95).

Josh Pena captured top honors in the 200 yard Freestyle (1:46.56), while Henry won the 100 yard Butterfly (53.70) and Austin Butler took first in the final event of the day, the 200 yard IM (2:01.34).

Rounding out the relay events for the Gents in first was the White 200 yard Freestyle relay team of Pena, Butler, Cefalu and Caleb McSorley in a time of 1:28.83.

Centenary will begin competitive competition on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 1 pm against Henderson State in Arkadelphia, Ark.
