Gents Soccer Draws 1-1 Double-Overtime Tie at ORU
Sunday, September 26, 2010
TULSA, Okla.-An early goal by junior Tate McIntyre put the Centenary men's soccer team on the board, but a competitive game sent the Gents home with a 1-1 double-overtime tie against Oral Roberts in their Summit League opener on Saturday evening.

The Gents (0-4-1, 0-0-1) would allow Oral Roberts to take the early lead when Sterling Copeland recorded his first goal of the season at the 8-minute mark.

However, after just two Centenary shot attempts, McIntyre fired off his first shot of the game, which proved to be successful as junior teammate Aaron Bergman recorded the assist.

All tied at 1-1, Oral Roberts tallied seven shots on goal during regulation, while the Gents sent seven towards net, but each goal keeper remained dominant. The Golden Eagles fired off back-to-back shots near the 80-minute mark, though, both were saved in goal by Gents senior keeper Rennie Walker.

The game was forced into overtime, but neither team was able to capture the victory in the final 20 extra minutes despite several heroic attempts to score.

Oral Roberts tallied 33 shots as 11 landed on goal, while Centenary put up 13 shots with five landing on goal.

Walker played all 110 minutes in goal, collecting a season-high 10 saves.

McIntyre and senior Zac Farrar each put up three shots, while RB Asenime added two.

Centenary will return to Shreveport to prepare for the upcoming Saturday game against league foe, Western Illinois, at 7 pm on Mayo Field.
