Saturday, October 9, 2010
ROCHESTER, Mich.-The Centenary volleyball team struggled to produce an offensive attack, falling 3-0 to Summit League foe, Oakland on Friday evening on the road.

The Ladies fell to 3-12 on the season with an 0-8 mark among league opponents.

Centenary dropped set one 25-9, set two 25-15 and set three 25-12.

Errors proved to be the difference maker all night long as the Ladies tallied 24 attacking errors to their 23 kills.

Senior Bethany Kern and juniors Stevie Kaye and Jaclyn Lopez all led Centenary with six kills apiece, while freshman setter Bethany Nuttall contributed with 17 assists on the offensive end.

Lopez recorded a squad-best 10 digs for the Ladies, while Nuttall added nine to the defensive side.

In set one, Centenary fell down 5-0 before Kaye recorded a kill to put the Ladies on the board. However, 15 kills with no attacking errors by the Golden Grizzlies gave the home team the upper hand the entire way through the opening set.

Set two played much closer in the early going as Centenary managed to tie the score at 8-8 on a service ace by Lopez. Though, eight attacking errors and a -.032 percentage followed for Centenary, allowing Oakland to go up 2-0 on the match.

In the final set, Oakland opened up with back-to-back kills. Down 8-2, Centenary was able to gain its third point off a kill from Lopez, but mistakes would continue to challenge Centenary as they were swept in three straight sets.

Centenary will return to action on Saturday when it travels to IPFW for a 6 pm CT contest.
