Swimming Notches Impressive Showing at Hendrix

CONWAY, Ark.-The Centenary swimming teams, again, showed well in the Hendrix Classic and Relay events on Friday and Saturday. After earning several top honors, Centenary combined to capture second place as a team with 665.5 points in the Invite events and second place after Saturday's relay events with a team total of 784.

The Gents earned first place in the Invite events with a score of 363.5 and first in the Relays with 408 points, while the Ladies took third in the Invite with 302 points and second in the Relays with 376 points.

In Friday's Invite, Centenary earned three top honors as Matthew Pittman won the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:02.21. Ross Oliver placed first in the 200 yard backstroke (1:57.90), while Brittany Wilkens captured first as well in the 200 yard breast (2:30.21).

Six individuals were able to finish runner up in their respective events. On the men's side, Josh Pena placed second in the 200 yard free (1:45.94) and Caleb McSorley took second in the 50 yard free (21:13). Austin Butler placed second in the 200 yard IM (2:00.97) and Devin Ross also placed second in the 100 yard free (46.61).

For the Ladies, Rachel Olson earned second place honors in the 200 yard IM (2:11.26) and Lauren Kloepfer was also second in the 500 yard free (5:25.15).

The 400 yard freestyle relay team on the men's side took first, consisting of team members: Ross, Peter Henry, McSorley, Pena (3:09.94) as the Ladies team consisted of Laura Huning, Michelle Gaubert, Olson and Cassie Cloutet with a time of 3:41.30. The 400 yard medley relay team for the Gents, consisting of Ross, Olivier, John Cefalu and Pena finished in 3:34.28 and a second-place finish.

In Saturday's Relay events, Centenary took seven top finishes home, as the Gents captured six.

Earning first place honors were the 200 yard freestyle team of Ross, Butler, Anthony LeBlanc and McSorley (1:25.13), the 300 yard breaststroke team of Cefalu, Cole Landsen and Ryne Smith (3:05.83), the 1500 yard freestyle team of Pittman, Ben Donaldson, Adam Pennington (14:59.99), the 300 yard medley relay team of Butler, Smith and Henry (2:42.79), the 299 yard medley team of Olivier, Henry, Cefalu, and LeBlanc (1:35.47) and lastly, the 400 yard freestyle team of Ross, McSorley, Butler and Pena (3:07.88).

The Ladies took home one first place relay finish in the 300 yard backstroke consisting of Olson, Kate Rivers and Lauren Lassiter (3:04.06).

Ouachita Baptist took team honors in the Invite with a combined score of 734.5, while Henderson State defeated Centenary with 830 points in the Relay events.

Centenary will return to the pool on Saturday, Nov. 6 with a  1 pm matchup with Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.
