SHREVEPORT-The Centenary men's soccer team enjoyed a solid home finale effort as senior Heath Cox led the Gents with two goals in a 2-0 win over IPFW on Saturday evening in Summit League action on Mayo Field.

The Gents improved to 2-6-2 overall and earned their first league win, giving them a 1-2-2 record against Summit League foes.

Despite playing to a 0-0 draw through the first half, Centenary managed to remain in control of the offensive attack the entire game, out shooting IPFW, 20-8.

Cox scored what proved to be the game-winner just three minutes into the second half at the 48-minute mark when the double-assist by senior Brian Hurlburt and junior Tate McIntyre found the Centenary-scoring leader who successfully fired into the lower right corner of the net to put the Gents up 1-0.

Later, McIntyre, who leads Centenary with three assists this season, provided Cox with an accurate cross, allowing him to net the bottom left corner for a 2-0 lead and the win at the 67-minute mark.

Senior goal keeper Rennie Walker played all 90 minutes in goal, collecting his first win and shutout of the season, tallying two saves.

Junior Marcos Rodriguez led Centenary with seven shots, four landing on goal. Cox fired off three, while two landed in net. Also contributing with a shot on goal was sophomore Spencer Nickerson and seniors Ryan Watson and Dragan Hinic.

IPFW landed just two shots on goal from Casey Bowman and Chris Moreno. Mastodon keeper Donovan Dowling made seven stops in goal, but suffered the loss.
