PREVIEW: Gymnastics to Host TWU in Home Opener; Think Pink & Club Gym Night
Tuesday, January 4, 2011
SHREVEPORT-The Centenary gymnastics team will open the 2011 season at home this Saturday when it hosts Texas Woman's University at 7 pm in the Gold Dome.

The meet will serve as "Think Pink" night. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to support Breast Cancer Awareness. Donations will be encouraged and fans can enter a drawing to win a Strawn's pie at the conclusion of the meet.

Also, Centenary will honor any club gym members in the community. By showing you participate in gymnastics or cheer classes, a fan can enter for only 10 cents and can be entered in a drawing to win a Happy Belly's gift card and Centenary gymnastics apparel.

The Ladies are looking for their first win under second-year head coach Gretchen Goerlitz as they bring back 13 letterwinners from a year ago and welcome four newcomers to this year's squad.

"Going into the season I believe we have a strong foundation.  This weekend will only be a starting point for us to begin with and continue to improve from there!  It will be great for the freshmen to have their first college meet under their belt, I know they are excited," said Goerlitz.

Centenary has continued to stay busy over the offseason, preparing for a tough schedule, which features the likes of Oklahoma, Alaska, TWU, SEMO, Denver, Missouri, Temple and Oregon State.

"In 2011, I am looking forward to my team really stepping up in the competition area.  They have a greater understanding of what to expect from me as well as themselves this year.  Competition is what makes all the pre-season hard work worth it. It's the best time of the year," said Goerlitz.

Centenary will look to seniors Marisa Schneider, a First-Team All-American selection last year, Maille Vetros, Makensie Lant and Tara Sandoval to lead, while sophomores Amanda Holt, an All-American and Jessica Lieblich returns as National qualifiers in their debut season.

Following Saturday's meet, the Ladies will travel to Norman, Okla. to take on Oklahoma, Denver and Oregon State at 7 pm on Friday, Jan. 21.
