PREVIEW: Swimming to Compete at Summit League Championships
Monday, February 14, 2011
SHREVEPORT-The Centenary swimming teams gear up for the 2011 Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships held in Indianapolis, Ind. this week. The Ladies and Gents are looking to build on the success of last year's championships, beginning Wednesday at the IU Natatorium.

"We are ready to compete. This is what we have been working towards all season and our kids are really excited to get to compete for the last time in The Summit League," said head coach Butch Jordan.

The Gents finished second in last year's Summit League Championships, behind Oakland with a score of 576, without a diving team. Centenary's success landed Jordan the Men's Coach of the Year honor.

This season has replicated a year ago as Centenary has competed in seven events this season, posting wins over Hendrix, Austin College, Southwestern, OBU, and UNO as well as capturing first place at the Hendrix Relays.

"On the men's side, the conference continues to get better every year, so we have had to get better to hold our spot, though we are striving for Top 2 again this season," said Jordan. "Devin Ross has been consistently in the top of the conference rankings, so we expect him to lead, while Josh Pena, Peter Henry, Matthew Pittman, Caleb McSorley, Ryne Smith and Ross Olivier were all finalists last year, so we are hoping for the same results again."

The Ladies finished fourth with a team score of 433 at last year's Summit League Championships. Centenary has posted four wins this season over UALR, Southwestern, Hendrix and Austin College.

"On our women's side, we have a very balanced team with no big scoreres, but we expect for them to score in every event in the meet," said Jordan. "We are looking forward to seeing freshman Rachel Olson do well, despite battling an injury all season long. We also expect Lauren Lassiter, Brittany Wilkens, Lauren Kloepfer and Laura Huning to score well for us."

Live scoring will be available for the League Championships at this LINK.
