Gents Break School Record in 800 Free Relay to Sit Third; Ladies in Fifth After Day 1

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.-The Centenary swimming teams opened The Summit League Championships on Wednesday with a strong showing in the 800 yard Freestyle Relay as the Gents posted a school record time to sit in third place and the Ladies took fifth after the one event on Day 1.

The Gents' team consisted of Anthony LeBlanc, Austin Butler, Josh Pena and Adam Pennington. These four speedsters broke the school record with a time of 6:54.05. The record was previously held by the 2008 relay team of Wlad Montoya, Ross Gilbert, Chase Lambert, and Rourke Barrett with a time of 6:54.41 at The Summit League Championships.

With a team score of 32, the Gents are in third through just one event. Leading the way on the men's side is Oakland with 40 points, followed by Eastern Illinois in second with 34.

The Ladies' relay team was made up of Lauren Lassiter, Brittany Wilkens, Cassie Cloutet, and Lauren Kloepfer. Centenary finished in fifth and collected 28 points. The women sit behind Oakland (40), Univ. of South Dakota (34), South Dakota St. (32), and Eastern Illinois (30).

Centenary will continue its quest towards a successful Summit League Championship on Thursday with five more events. The meet will run until Saturday evening.
