Ladies See Another Tough Loss in Tournament Finale

DENTON, Texas-The Centenary softball team wrapped up the Sleep Inn Classic with another tough loss on the road, falling to host-North Texas, 11-2, in five innings on Sunday afternoon.

The Ladies (0-4) were led by senior Bonnie Matak with a 2-for-3 effort with two doubles and junior Leah Dark with a 2-for-2 performance. Freshman Chandelle Scott (1x2, R) and sophomore Bailey Boggs (1x2, R) each contributed with a knock.

North Texas gained a 9-0 lead through the first three innings and forced Centenary to scramble to find an answer. The Ladies plated their first run in the top of the fourth when Scott doubled to get the momentum started. She was moved to third on a single by Dark and plated on an RBI fielder's choice by junior Phyllis Hafer.

The Mean Green continued to build on their lead with two more runs to make it an 11-1 game before the Ladies added one more in the fifth. Boggs singled to open the frame and moved to third on a double by Matak. Junior Kalyn Harris' sacrificed fly scored Boggs for the second run.

Freshman Lynsi Unruh (0-1) (1.0,5,5,4,1,0) got her first collegiate start but would suffer the loss, allowing four earned runs on five hits in 1.0 inning of work. Junior Reggie Salvatore (3.0,5,6,4,6,1) tossed the final 3.0 innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits with one strikeout.

The Ladies will travel to Grambling on Tuesday for a 3 pm contest.
