Ladies Split Final Day of Opening-Weekend Invitational

IRVING, Texas-The Centenary volleyball team returns home with a strong showing at the U-Dallas Invitational, posting a 3-1 record after splitting Saturday's matches. The Ladies defeated Sul. Ross State, 3-0, before falling to host-U-Dallas, 3-1.

The Ladies (3-1) picked up their third straight win to open the year with a 25-18, 25-19, 25-23 sweep over Sul Ross State. Centenary battled a competitive U-Dallas squad, but fell 16-25, won set two 25-17, and lost 22-25 and 17-25 in the final two sets.

Match 1: Centenary 3, Sul Ross State 0
Centenary tallied 12 aces as a team, led by sophomore Bethany Nuttall with three and junior Jesi Wilcox with two. Junior middle blocker Shelby Singleton powered up double-digit kills with 15.

Setter Nuttall dished out 12 assists, while defensive specialist Wilcox made 13 digs in her Centenary debut.

Match 2: U-Dallas 3, Centenary 1
Centenary saw another strong outing by Singleton with her fourth consecutive game with double-digit kills, tallying 16. She also added four blocks in the effort. Freshman Brooke Bahlinger provided the Ladies with 12 kills.

Senior Caitlin Neese contributed with 38 assists and Wilcox made 17 digs, her second double-digit dig performance of the day.

Centenary will return to action and begin conference play in the American Southwest Conference on Tuesday when it travels to LeTourneau in Longview, Texas for a 7 pm match.
