Preview: Ladies to Host ULM in Mid-Week Contest, Wednesday

SHREVEPORT-The Centenary women's soccer team is set to host in-state rival, ULM, on Wednesday evening at 7 pm on Mayo Field.

The Ladies (2-0) enter the mid-week contest with a strong start to their 2011 season, posting a 2-0 record with wins over Texas College and Millsaps.

ON START TO SEASON
Centenary's 2-0 start is the best start for the women's program since the 2009-10 season when it opened with five straight wins. The Ladies began with a 5-0 victory over Texas College last Thursday in Centenary's home opener. They then traveled to Millsaps in Jackson, Miss. over the weekend to pick up a 1-0 win on the road.

A LOOK AT NUMBERS
Centenary has yet to allow a team to score, posting back-to-back shutouts. Leading the offensive attack thus far is junior Holden Penney with two goals. Also finding a way into the scoring column has been senior Candace Rushing, junior Traci Lee, sophomore Justine Russell and freshman Carly Slovensky. Rushing is second-best on the team with three points with one goal and one assist.

Freshman goal keeper Brittaney Dunn has played all 180 minutes in goal, posting four saves for a 1.000 percentage. She also has two shutouts and two wins credited to her name.

As a team, Centenary has outshot its opponents, 23-10 and scored six goals.

CONTINUING NON-CONFERENCE PLAY
The Ladies will continue to prepare for ASC by playing three more non-conference games against ULM, Northeastern State on Sat., Sept. 10 and host cross-town rival, LSUS on Mon., Sept. 12. Centenary will open ASC play on Friday, Sept. 16 when it hosts Schreiner at 2 pm on Mayo Field.

A LOOK AT ULM
ULM is 2-2-1 on the year with wins over Central Arkansas and Southern. The Warhawks tied Nicholls State and dropped games to Northwestern State and McNeese State. Leading the way offensively for ULM is Alyssa Wooden with three goals and one assist for seven points. Goal keeper Hannah Linzay has played all 470 minutes in goal, collecting 27 saves for a .750 percentage.

ON THE RECORD
Centenary and ULM will meet for the second straight year. The Warhawks edged the Ladies, 3-2 in double overtime last year in Monroe, La. Penney and Rushing scored Centenary's goals.

UP NEXT
Centenary will travel to Northeastern State University in Tahleqhah, Okla. on Saturday, Sept. 10 for a 7 pm game start. The Ladies will then return home for a cross-town rival game against LSUS on Monday, Sept. 12 at 5 pm on Mayo Field.
