Gents Battle Stanford in Bayou Dual Meet

LAFAYETTE, La.-The Centenary men's swimming team showcased its preseason hard work when it battled nationally-ranked Stanford to a 77-111 loss on Friday evening in the Bayou Dual Meet.

The Gents (0-1) consistently hung right with the Cardinal, posting several solid times in their debut outing.

The 200 yard Medley Relay team of Peter Henry, Ryne Smith, Devin Ross, and Caleb McSorley captured fourth place with a time of 1:39.61 to lead Centenary.

Anthony LeBlanc's time of 1:51.27 in the 200 yard Free landed him a fourth place finish, while Austin Butler took fifth in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:02.15 to pace the Gents.

Henry led Centenary in the 50 Free with a time of 22:79 and a fourth place nod. Ross garnered fourth in the 100 yard Butterfly, swimming in a time of 53.20. McSorley swam the 100 yard Free in 51.11 for a fourth place finish to guide Centenary. Matthew Pittman earned fifth place in the 500 yard Free with a time of 5:06.03.

Centenary swept the 200 yard Free Relays, 100 yard Back, 100 yard Breaststroke, and 400 yard Free after Stanford's scores did not count.

The Gents were led in the 200 yard Free Relays by the first place team of Josh Scott, LeBlanc, Henry, and McSorley with a time of 1:30.01. Ross Olivier took first in the 100 yard Back (55.64), while Chris Kalmbach won the 100 yard Breaststroke (1:02.07). The 400 yard Free Relay team of Butler, Cameron Green, Scott, and Olivier earned first place points with a time of 3:22.65.

Centenary will return to action on Oct. 1 when it teams up with the Ladies to host the annual Maroon & White Intrasquad at 2 pm in the Fitness Center.
