Volleyball Swept on Day 1 of ASC Dig Pink Cross-Over

ABILENE, Texas-The Centenary volleyball team battled top-ranked ASC West teams, McMurry and Hardin-Simmons to 3-0 losses on Day 1 of the ASC Dig Pink Cross-Over Challenge I.

The Ladies fell to 5-7 on the year and 1-6 in ASC play with the sweep.

MATCH 1: McMurry 3, Centenary 0
Centenary fell to undefeated McMurry, 3-0, despite playing the War Hawks to two close sets. The Ladies dropped set one 25-20, set two 25-14, and set three 25-21.

Senior Jaclyn Lopez and junior Shelby Singleton each tallied a match-high 12 kills to pace the offensive attack. Senior Caitlin Neese contributed with 22 assists at the setter position. Defensively, senior Taylor Gilmour made 12 digs.

As a team, Centenary was out attacked, .299 to .152 to McMurry. The Ladies were forced into 38 miscues, including 10 receiving errors.

MJ Vickers led McMurry with 11 kills and 11 digs.

MATCH 2: Hardin-Simmons 3, Centenary 0

Centenary fell 20-27, 15-25 and 19-25 against Hardin-Simmons in its second match on Friday.

The Ladies were led offensively by freshman Sarah Sumner with eight kills, while Lopez and Singleton each had five. Neese contributed with 12 assists, while Gilmour had two service aces.

Defensively, Gilmour made 10 digs. Centenary was out hit .284 to .101 on the evening.

Centenary will wrap up the ASC Dig Pink Cross-Over Challenge I on Saturday with a 10 am contest against Concordia and a 3 pm contest against Howard Payne.
