Preview: Ladies Home to Host McMurry, Hardin-Simmons

SHREVEPORT-The Centenary women's soccer team will return to Mayo Field for the second weekend in a row as it hosts two more ASC opponents. Conference foes McMurry and Hardin-Simmons will make the drive to Shreveport for Thursday and Saturday games verse the Ladies, both at 4 pm.

The Ladies (7-4, 5-1) are coming off of a victory weekend as they swept last weekend. The Ladies shut out both LeTourneau and ETBU as they improved to 5-1 in conference action. Juniors Allie Cortes and Courtney Cleveland netted the goals in the Ladies 2-0 win over LeTourneau. Junior Traci Lee secured an early goal against ETBU, but it was not until the overtime-golden goal by junior Holden Penney that the game would end in a 2-1 victory.

The Ladies are outscoring their opponents 22-19 so far this season. Penney is leading the Ladies in points with 19 on six goals and seven assists. Senior Candace Rushing follows Penney with 12 points on four goals and four assists. Lee has added three goals and two assists to the mix as well for eight points. Freshman keeper Brittaney Dunn has collected 58 saves on the season with five shutouts in the 11 games played.

McMurry is coming into Thursday's contest with a record of 3-7 overall and 2-5 in conference play. The War Hawks have beaten the University of the Ozarks and Louisiana College. Freshman Kristen Grant is leading McMurry in points with four goals and two assists on the season. The War Hawks have been outscored 13-45 by their opponents.

The Cowgirls of Hardin-Simmons are on a nine game winning streak, as they have not lost a game since dropping a contest at Trinity (3-2). Hardin-Simmons is perfect in conference action with a record of 7-0. In 2010, the Cowgirls captured the NCAA championship title in a 2-1 win over Messiah. Hardin-Simmons is being led by junior Katie Kuykendall with eleven goals and eight assists.

The Ladies will travel to UT-Tyler and Concordia for their next contests.
