Volleyball Sweeps UMHB on Senior Day

SHREVEPORT-In one of the most dominating performances of the season, the Centenary volleyball team used a three-set sweep to defeat Mary Hardin-Baylor, led by the Ladies' three seniors on Saturday afternoon in ASC play.

The win improved Centenary's record to 13-8 and dropped UMHB to 16-6, who entered the contest among the top three in ASC play.

The Ladies grabbed a 25-15 set one win on a .432 attack percentage, followed by a 26-24 set two win and a final, 25-16 set three win.

Centenary earned its eighth sweep of the season and sixth in the last seven matches.

Centenary seniors Caitlin Neese, Jaclyn Lopez and Taylor Gilmour sparked the offensive and defensive threat, leading the Ladies' to a solid .310 attack percentage, only eight attack errors and 52 digs.

Neese and Lopez each tallied double-doubles as Neese had 40 assists and 10 digs, while Lopez collected 12 kills and 10 digs to lead Centenary. Junior middle blocker Shelby Singleton produced a game-best 19 kills, two shy of her career-high.

Defensively, Gilmour was impressive in the libero position, making a team-high 19 digs. Singleton had two block solos and two block assists.

The 2011-12 senior class in Jaclyn Lopez, Taylor Gilmour, Caitlin Neese, and Kayla Tibaldo were honored for their contributions as a student-athlete at Centenary following the match.

Centenary will wrap up its season on the road with seven more matches. The Ladies will travel next to UT-Tyler on next Friday, Oct. 21 at 7 pm.
