Ladies Swept on Opening Day of Millsaps Tourney

JACKSON, Miss.-The Centenary volleyball team struggled to find an answer on the opening day of the Millsaps Tournament, falling 3-0 to Millsaps and 3-1 to Belhaven on Friday afternoon.

The Ladies' record evened at 13-13 after Friday's losses with two games left in the 2011 season on Saturday.

MATCH 1: Millsaps 3, Centenary 0

Centenary dropped sets: 25-15, 25-23, 29-27.

Senior Jaclyn Lopez posted a double-double in Match 1 against Millsaps, tallying 10 kills and 14 digs. Junior Shelby Singleton led the team with 16 kills and a .406 attack percentage, while freshman Brooke Bahlinger chipped in with 10 kills. Senior setter Caitlin Neese totaled 28 assists to patrol the offense and senior Taylor Gilmour made 24 digs to pace the defense.

Centenary was forced into 14 attack errors and hit .200 on the afternoon with 40 kills on 130 attempts.

MATCH 2: Belhaven 3, Centenary 1

Centenary dropped sets one and two 25-16, 25-23, but battled back to take set three 26-24, before eventually falling 25-21 in the final fourth set.

Singleton made 15 kills to lead the Ladies' offense, while Lopez followed with 10. Neese contributed with 24 assists, while freshman Sarah Sumner tallied four service aces.
Gilmour paced the defense again with 12 digs, while Sumner added two block solos.

Centenary hit .159 on 38 kills and 16 errors.

Centenary will wrap up the 2011 season on Saturday with two final matches against LaGrange at 10 am, followed by Loyola (NO) at 4 pm.
