Volleyball Splits Final Day of Play; Wraps up 2011

JACKSON, Miss.-The Centenary volleyball team earned a 3-0 victory over LaGrange, but fell to Loyola (NO), 3-2, on Saturday afternoon on the final day of the Millsaps Tournament to conclude the Ladies' 2011 season.

The Ladies finished the year at an even 14-14 and wrapped up the final weekend at 1-3.

MATCH 1: Centenary 3, LaGrange 0

Centenary earned three straight set wins: 25-17, 25-18, and 25-22.

The Ladies were led by junior Shelby Singleton with 15 kills and freshman Brooke Bahlinger with 10, followed by senior Jaclyn Lopez' seven. Senior setter Caitlin Neese contributed with 30 assists and tallied five service aces as Centenary notched 12 as a team.

Defensively, Neese led with 12 digs for a double-double, while senior libero Taylor Gilmour and Lopez each made 11 digs.

Centenary recorded a .235 attack percentage on 38 kills.

MATCH 2: Loyola (NO) 3, Centenary 2

Centenary went up 2-0 with two 25-23 set wins, before falling in the final three sets, 25-18, 25-22, and 10-15 for the loss.

The Ladies were led by Singleton, who tied her career-high with 21 kills. Lopez finished with 13, while Bahlinger added eight. Neese made 44 assists in the effort.

Defensively, Gilmour tallied 24 digs, while Lopez had 19 for a double-double.
