Gents Fall Short at the Ozarks

CLARKSVILLE, AR - The Gents fought hard in their road game against the Eagles of the Ozarks, but were unable to pick up a win on the road losing 80 – 75. 

The Ozarks opened up the game on a 9-0 run.  Senior Maxx Nakwaasah stopped the Eagles’ run when he was fouled on a three point shot with 16:31 on the clock.  Nakwaasah knocked down all three foul shots to put the Gents on the board.

The Gents were having trouble finding offensive rhythm early.  They shot (8-27) 29.6% in the first half.  Thankfully, the Gents were in the bonus early in the first half and knocked down 13 of 17 from the free throw line.  Centenary was down 30 – 42 going into the half.

During the second half, the Gents came out strong chipping away at the Eagles’ lead.  At the 7:51 mark, Nakwaasah tied up the game at the free throw line making it 56-56.  Both teams battled back and forth and at the 4:11 mark Ozarks’ Colby Woolverton knocked down a huge three point shot to put the Ozarks up 67-62 over the Gents.

After a hard fought battle the Eagles ended up on top with an 80 – 75 victory over the Gents.

Top scorers for Centenary were Nakawaasah with 21 points, sophomore Jonathan Blount with 19, and freshman Caden Cheramie added in 13 points.

Centenary shot 38.5% (25-65) for the game and 7.7% (1 – 13) from beyond the arc.

Ozarks had five players in double figure scoring.  Leading the way was Woolverton with 18 points.

The Gents return home on Thursday and will follow the Ladies' game with a 7:00pm tif off against LeTourneau University.
