GYM TALK
Thursday, February 23, 2012

Hey all you Ladies fans! This is freshman Natalie Humbert coming to you live from the good ole’ dorms of Centenary College!

We had a lot of great things happen in the gym this week. We’ve been traveling for away meets the past six weeks, so it was really nice to spend this week preparing for our first home meet! We decided the most important thing to remember this week is “WTF” or should I say, “Where’s the FUN?!”, and we definitely found it! We worked really hard on upgrading our vaults and our awesome coach made some really fun beam assignments that got us working hard but got us pumped as well! We were also able to have a practice in the Gold Dome with everything set up for our meet. It was a really great way for everyone to get a feel for how the competition was going to be the next day!

This Friday we held our “Think Pink” meet in support of breast cancer awareness. I’d like to make a shout out to sorority Zeta Tau Alpha for making the campus look so festive in support of the Ladies and for all of the fun activities they held during the meet to help raise awareness. Many families have been affected by breast cancer in one way or another, so it was a really great way to come together to help raise money for this important cause!

For the third week in a row, we were able to get our second highest score of the season, which was a 191.25. Along with our second highest team score, we had season highs on vault and floor and tied our season high on bars…so all in all a great meet! Everyone did an amazing job, and we had a blast! I want to thank all of our fans who came out and supported us; it was greatly appreciated! Unfortunately, during warm-ups, freshman Christina Navarro was injured. Fingers crossed for a quick and speedy recovery! Due to this injury, we had to count every score in the bar line-up, and everyone stepped up and hit her routines when it counted most! Floor was also definitely a highlight of the night, everyone’s score was at least a 9.6 or higher! We got to throw a T-shirt in to the crowd for every 9.6 routine that was made that night, and, needless to say, we got to throw a lot! J

It was so exciting to see all of our hard work and dedication pay off, and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the Ladies in the next three home meets to come!

WIT,

Natalie
