Kemp tops Ladies at SFA tourney

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS – Justine Kemp fired an opening-round 79 at the Ladyjack Crown Classic to top all Centenary golfers as the Ladies wrapped up play in 12th in the 12-team field Tuesday afternoon.

It was a rough tournament for Centenary as Kemp was the only golfer to break the 90-stroke barrier with first-round 79 and 88 second-round mark before closing the tournament with a 93. She closed with a 260, good enough for 36th place.

Rachel Grinnell fired a combined 273 in 51st place, followed by teammates Sarah Bradshaw (280) in 57th and Kyndal Rose (287) in 58th.

Kylee Goldthorn rounded out the Ladies roster in 60th place with a 369.

Lamar won the event with a 952, led by Julie Aime’s 226 (78-74-74) mark. Texas A&M’s B team grabbed second place, just five shots back and produced two top-four finishes in Chelsea Mocio (233) and Natalie Reeves (235).

Other schools competing were Redlands Community College (984), Sam Houston State (986), Oklahoma City (996), Midwestern State (1004), Western Texas Community College (1013), Lubbock Christian (1024), Texas Pan American (1039), Stephen F. Austin (1041) and McLennan Community College (1049).

The Ladies return to the course Monday at the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational in Dataw Island, South Carolina.
