SHREVEPORT – Centenary dominated Hendrix and Austin College Saturday afternoon, racking up 13 first-place finishes in 24 events.

Centenary’s men and women escaped with two wins apiece. The men outraced Austin College 49-37 and Hendrix 51-35 as the women dominated Austin College 61-28 and Hendrix 55-35.

Centenary’s 200-yard medley relay teams started the meet with consecutive wins, each winning by at least four seconds. Chelsea Russell, Michael Gaubert, Rachel Olson and Laura Huning wrapped up a 1:55.74 finish, more than five seconds ahead of Hendrix (2:00.79).

Ross Olivier, Beau Montgomery, Erick Norem III and Austin Butler recorded a 1:41.24 mark, bettering Austin College’s 1:47.6.

The Ladies and Gents followed with seven more wins individual events with nine swimmers claiming the top spot.

Christy Wolterman and Raquel Candal wrapped up the 1-2 spots in the women’s 1000-yard freestyle before Collin Baker, Andrew Borel and Chris Kalmbach accounted for the top three finishes, respectively, in the men’s 1000-yard free.

“We’re really pleased with the kids stepping up in the middle of our hard training,” head coach Butch Jordan said. “There was some really good racing going on. I was pleased with our results, but obviously we still need to improve in some areas. We showed a lot of progress Saturday and I’m excited to see how the rest of the season turns out.”

Laura Huning (2:03.03) edged teammate Kayla Thornhill’s 2:05.71 mark in the women’s 200-yard freestyle. Austin Butler (1:49.51) and Matthew Pittman (1:54.30) grabbed the 1-2 spots in the men’s 200-yard free.

Michelle Gaubert’s 25.76 mark in the 50-yard freestyle notched the top position, just ahead of Kayla Thornhill’s 26.44 time. Chris Kalmbach wrapped up the 50-yard free in 23.03 to beat Austin College’s Mark Perez, who finished just .23 seconds behind.

Rachel Olson dominated the women’s 400-yard individual medley in 4:52.20, nearly 10 seconds ahead of Hendrix’s Sydney Haldeman.
