Ladies open 2013 season at LeTourneau

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary softball team opens its 2013 season on Thursday, Feb. 14 as the Ladies travel to LeTourneau University for a doubleheader scheduled to start at 4 p.m. Live video of the twinbill will be available at www.gocentenary.com.

Centenary was tabbed fifth in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference’s Preseason Coaches’ Poll just behind the University of Dallas.

The Ladies return eight players from a season ago, including the team’s top bat in Nicole Warren. The Castor, La., native hit .308 last season for the Maroon and White and led the squad with 37 hits. Jessica McDonald (.259) and Lauren Swift (.250) also return to the lineup giving Mark Lambert three of his top four hitters from last season. Cadie Hancock returns as the team’s leading RBI producer from a season ago. The Bellaire, Texas, sophomore tallied 10 RBI in 2012 which was second on the team. The Maroon and White’s top pitcher, Lynsi Unruh, pitched 142 innings for the Ladies last season and returns for her junior season.

Following Thursday’s action, Centenary returns to the diamond on Friday, Feb. 22 as part of the two-day, Louisiana College Round Robin Tournament. The Lades will face Millsaps at 11 a.m. on the opening day followed by a 3 p.m. start against the host Lady Wildcats. The Maroon and White close out the event with LeTourneau at 11 a.m. on Saturday followed by a rematch with Millsaps at 3 p.m.
