LONGVIEW, Texas. – The Centenary softball team opened the 2013 season with a pair of setbacks at LeTourneau on Thursday afternoon. The Ladies were nipped 1-0 in the opener and then turned back 8-0 in the nightcap.

Shelby Borders singled in the seventh to score Juliana Tuel capturing the season opening win. The hit was the second of the outing for Borders.

Tuel led the inning off with a single and later stole second before advancing to third on a wild pitch. Tuel finished the doubleheader with six total hits.

Lynsi Unruh recorded six strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work. Unruh surrendered eight hits and walked one in the contest.

Lauren Swift and Nicole Warren logged the only two hits for the Ladies in the contest.

The Maroon and White fought through six scoreless innings with the Yellowjackets escaping jams in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to leave five runners stranded on the base paths. LETU left nine total runners on base in the contest.

Karen Kubacak tossed the complete game in the win with six strikeouts, a walk and scattered two hits.

In the second game of the double dip, LETU capitalized on six Centenary miscues to post four runs in the second inning and followed with a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth innings to secure the sweep.

Tuel and Anna Winter each registered multi-hit performances in the victory. Tuel 2-for-4 with a pair RBI and two scores while Winter went 2-for-3 with a RBI.

Lindsey Sconce went 4.1 innings while allowing eight hits and eight runs, three earned, in the loss.

Taylor Thibodeaux logged the win in the circle with 3.2 innings of work. Thibodeaux posted five strikeouts with two hits allowed. Kelli Parton tossed 1.1 innnings with a strikeout and a pair of hits.

Warren, Swift, Jessica McDonald and Abbie Woods registered the four hits for the Maroon and White.

Centenary returns to action on Friday, Feb. 22 as part of the two-day, Louisiana College Round Robin Tournament. The Lades will face Millsaps at 11 a.m. on the opening day followed by a 3 p.m. start against the host Lady Wildcats. The Maroon and White close out the event with LeTourneau at 11 a.m. on Saturday followed by a rematch with Millsaps at 3 p.m.
