SHREVEPORT, La. – Lynsi Unruh pitched her first shutout of the season and Erin Crite’s RBI single in the fourth inning was enough for the Centenary softball team to salvage a series split over Austin College 1-0 on Senior Day.

The Ladies (4-24, 3-5 SCAC) dropped the first game of the doubleheader 7-1 before winning the pitchers’ duel in game two. AC (5-22, 2-5 SCAC) has lost seven of its last nine, including five of seven in conference.

Unruh (4-15) escaped some early jams in the first two innings before cruising the rest of the way. The Lady Roos’ stranded four of their five baserunners in these innings. Besides a two-out double by Briana Hernandez in the sixth inning, Unruh did not allow a baserunner after the second inning. She had retired 11 straight before that hit.

Unruh allowed no runs on four hits while walking and striking out one.

At the plate, the Maroon and White collected seven hits. Three of those came in the fourth inning when the Ladies scored their lone run of the game.

Lauren Swift led off the frame with a double and advanced to third on an infield single by Unruh. Crites delivered with a single to get Centenary on the board and that’s all the Houston, Texas, native needed.

Swift picked up a pair of hits and was the only player for the Maroon and White to have a multi-hit day. Nicole Warren, Lindsey Sconce, and Abbie Woods also notched hits in the victory.

Sophia Hernandez (4-9) suffered a tough loss in another solid outing. She pitched 6.0 innings allowing a run on seven hits and striking out one.

Centenary suffered two big innings in the earlier contest of the day beginning with a three-run first. Charlotte Trudell delivered the suffering blow with a bases loaded triple and scored on a wild pitch to wrap up a four-run sixth inning.

AC picked up six hits in this one with Jessica Baker, Rachel Ramos, Hernandez, and Heather Farquhar also reaching the hit column.

Hernandez got the win tossing 6.0 innings, scattering three hits and allowing a run. She walked two and struck out one. Sam Matulis pitched a scoreless seventh to seal the win.

Warren, Sconce, Woods all notched hits, with Sconce’s double being the only extra basehit. The Ladies’ lone run came in the sixth inning when Warren scored on a wild pitch.

The Ladies celebrated senior day prior to the games, honoring Jenny King, McDonald, Swift, and Sconce.

Centenary is back at home to play two of the rescheduled games against the University of Dallas. First pitch is slated Wednesday, Apr. 10 at 5 p.m.
