Ladies' fast starts not enough to top UHV

HOUSTON, Texas – The Centenary softball team fell to 4-26 on the season after dropping a doubleheader on Friday evening at the University of Houston at Victoria. The Ladies fell 8-5 in the opener and 13-3 in the second outing.

The Maroon and White combined for just seven hits in the twinbill with five coming in the second outing. Whitney Patterson, Lauren Swift, Nicole Warren, Lindsey Sconce, Erin Crites, Jessica McDonald and Abbie Woods tallied hits in the doubleheader.

In the opener, the Ladies tabulated all of its runs in the first inning using five walks and two base hits to the run total.

UHV chipped away at the lead with a run in the first and a pair of runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings. The Jaguars added an insurance run the sixth.

Lynsi Unruh suffered the loss in the circle with 15 hits allowed and one walk in sixth innings of work.

UHV used a seven-run, third inning complete the doubleheader sweep. The Jaguars took an early 5-0 lead before erupting for the run total in the third frame.

Lindsey Sconce took the loss with 12 earned runs allowed on 12 hits in the four innings of action.

The Ladies plated two runs in the first inning on three of their hits. Crites drove in the first Centenary run with a single to left center. Swift followed scoring on a fielder’s choice for the final run of the inning. Emma Viskozki was the lone, Ladies’ run the remainder of the crossing the dish on an error.

Centenary returns to the diamond with four contests at Trinity beginning Saturday, Apr. 13 at 1 p.m.
