SHREVEPORT, La. – East Texas Baptist’s Paola Bear’s goal in the 77th minute proved the difference as the Centenary women’s soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to open the 2013 season at Mayo Field.

Bear’s goal, off an assist from Kelsey Bisco, stood as the only score in the second stanza after Centenary fought back to tie the contest at 1-all in the opening 45 minutes of the contest.

Madison Alexander picked up where she left off in her freshman season scoring the Ladies lone goal in the 20th minute. The Keller, Texas, sophomore took two of the Maroon and White’s four shots on the night with both her attempts coming on goal. Amanda Atwell took the remaining two shots for the Ladies with one on goal.

Freshman Erica Coker (0-1) was saddled with the loss in her debut. The Frisco, Texas, product warned off 11 of the 18 ETBU shots on the night despite allowing two goals. The Blue and Gold placed 13 shots on goal in the effort.

Erin Miller placed the Tigers on the board early scoring off an assist from Christina Robles’ corner in the seventh minute.

Sarah Collazo (1-0) picked up the victory in net rejecting two shots by the Ladies.

Centenary returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 5 as the Ladies travel to Louisiana College. The match is slated for 5 p.m.
