Ladies travel to UT-Tyler Annual Invitational

SHREVEPORT, La. – After the first week of competition under its belt, the Centenary volleyball team returns to the court in the UT-Tyler Annual Invitational. The Ladies (1-3) open the two-day event at Noon on Friday, Sept. 6 against the host Patriots. The opening day concludes with a 4 p.m. outing against Mary Hardin-Baylor.

The Maroon and White close out the event with matches against Howard Payne (Noon) and East Texas Baptist (4 p.m.) on Saturday.

Sarah Sumner and Sarah Irons led the squad with 35 kills each during the Hendrix Labor Day Tournament while Brooke Bahlinger added 24 kills – third most on the team. Bahlinger also tallied a team-best 41 digs in a defensive performance.

Beth Nuttall paced the squad with 110 assists, including a career-high 32 against Belhaven – besting her previous mark of 31 (v. LeTourneau) one year to date. Rachel Perkins supplied 39 digs to finish second on the team for the tournament.

Lindsey Long added a team-best six blocks during the tournament.

The Ladies logged their first win rallying to a five-set victory over Lyon. The five-set outing was one of two for the Maroon and White during the two-day event.

Following the weekend slate, Centenary returns to the court on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at LeTourneau. The match is slated for 7 p.m.
