Ladies close UT-Tyler Invite with a pair of losses

TYLER, Texas – The Centenary volleyball team dropped their final two matches of the University of Texas at Tyler Invitational. The Ladies fell in straight sets in both outings to move their record to 1-7 overall.

Sarah Irons led the team on the day totaling 24 kills. The Argyle, Texas, sophomore also accounted for 12 digs – which ranked third on the team. Brooke Bahlinger paced the squad in digs with 17 – one better than fellow junior Sarah Sumner. Bahlinger ranked second on the team with 17 kills while Sumner sat third with 10 kills. Beth Nuttall provided 55 assists, including one shy of tying her career-high with 31 against Howard Payne.

The Maroon and White fell 19-25, 18-25, 18-25 in a hard fought match with HPU to open the day. Centenary provided an obstacle in the first two sets of the match against East Texas Baptist before being swept (16-25, 15-25, 6-25).

Nuttall finished the tournament with 84 assists while Irons paced the squad with 32 kills. Sumner led the defensive effort with 36 digs for the two-day event. Bahlinger ranked second on the squad in kills and digs with 29 and 34 respectively.

Centenary returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 11 as the Ladies travel to LeTourneau University. The match is slated for 7 p.m.
