GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Centenary volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Cross Divisional at Southwestern University on Saturday. The Ladies lost 3-0 to Texas Lutheran in the opening match before falling 3-1 to Trinity in the final match of the day.

After a tightly-contested, opening set against the Tigers, the Maroon and White bested TU in the second set 29-27 to knot the match at 1-each. However, Trinity rallied back to win the next two sets 25-9 and 25-12 to secure the victory.

Brooke Bahlinger led the Ladies in the contest with eight kills. Sarah Sumner followed with seven kills in the outing. Kadidiatou Diawara posted the best kill percentage in the match at 25-percent and finished tied for third on the team with Rachel Perkins with five kills. Beth Nuttall dished out 23 assists in the affair.

Defensively, Bahlinger recorded 20 digs as she led a trio of Ladies with double figures in the category. Perkins and Chelsea Petska each tallied 12.

Layne Hubbard paced TU with 14 kills in the performance. Hubbard was one of three Tigers with double-digit kills as Maggie Emodi and Jana Tucker posted 12 and 10 respectively.

In the opener against TLU, Centenary fought to a 25-20 setback in the opening set before the Bulldogs claimed the final two sets 25-11 and 25-14 to claim the first match of the day.

Sumner tallied seven kills in the opener to lead the Maroon and White. Nuttall added 11 assists in the match along with a team leading 10 digs.

Centenary returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 29 as the Ladies conclude the conference’s cross divisional against host Southwestern at Noon and Schreiner at 2 p.m.
