SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary men’s soccer team fell 3-1 in a tightly contested, hard-fought contest against Southwestern University on Sunday afternoon. The Pirates move to 11-5-1 and 8-1-1 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action while the Maroon and White move to 0-16 and 0-11 in conference.

After SU took a 1-0 lead into the intermission, Cole Davidson knotted the contest at 1-all in the 51st minute off an assist from Daryn Beaugh. The goal was the first of Davidson’s career with the Gents. Beaugh’s assist was the first of his career.

Centenary totaled 13 shots as Davidson and Gabriel Zahm tied for the team-lead with four shots each. The duo combined for four on target.

The Black and Gold answered with a goal from Michael Olivares to break the deadlock in the 73rd minute. Matthew Nickell added a score in the 82nd minute to ice the win for SU. Zach Faulkner assisted on all three, Pirate goals.

Rylan Whan (0-6) was saddled with the loss for the Gents with two goals surrendered paired with a team-best, four saves. Austin Andrews drew the start in goal and registered two saves with the first half goal surrendered. Chase Duet logged the final, seven minutes in goal.

The Pirates took 19 shots in the effort with Steven Resnik leading the squad with four.

Daniel Poole (9-3-1) claimed the win for the Black and Gold in goal with five saves and the lone goal allowed. Travis Carmichael played the final, four minutes in goal.

Centenary returns to action o Friday, Oct. 25 as the Gents host the University of Dallas. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
