Ladies and Gents finish second at Hendrix Relays to close out weekend

CONWAY, Ark. – The Centenary swimming team concluded two days of events at Hendrix College with a second place finish at the Hendrix Relays posting 636 points to edge out the University of Texas-Permian Basin with 608 points. The men’s 400-yard freestyle relay team of Mitchell Foster, Beau Montgomery, Andrew Borel and Cameron Brando posted the best finish for Centenary with a second-place finish at the Hendrix Classic with a time of 3:28.21.

Oklahoma Baptist claimed the team title with 1,016 points.

The squad posted eight, top three finishes during the relays, including second place finishes in the men’s 400-yard freestyle relay and men’s 300-yard backstroke relay. Borel and Foster each swam legs on both teams helping the Gents to the finishes.

Austin Butler and Montgomery joined Borel and Foster on the 400-yard free with a time of 3:19.82 while Brando swam the opening leg of the 300-yard free assisting the Maroon and White to a time of 2:54.06.

Centenary placed third in the women’s and men’s 400-yard medley. The Ladies team of Ashley Giggen, Rachel Olson, Michelle Gaubert and Kayla Thornhill recorded a time of 4:20.96 while the Gents’ squad of Borel, Butler, Montgomery and Foster tallied a time of 3:41.48.

Arash Ataei, Foster, Collin Baker and Christopher Feazel finished third in the men’s 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:49.80 while Ataei, Erick Norem and Baker placed a third place finish in the men’s 1500-yard freestyle with a time of 15:53.21.

The Ladies and Gents each finished third in the 300-yard medley with the team of Breana Williams, Giffen and Rachel Olson posting a time of 3:25.43 while the trio of Brando, Jaun Tapia and Butler tallied a time of 2:55.72.

Tapia joined Montgomery and Ataei in a third-place finish in the men’s 300-yard butterfly with a time of 2:49.44.

At the classic, the Ladies and Gents combined for four, top three finishes, including the second-place finish in the men’s 400-yard free.

Giffen, Chelsea Russell, Gaubert and Olson finished third in the women’s 400-yard medley posted a time of 4:18.48 to finish third while Brando, Kellan Bullock, Montgomery and Butler finished third in the men’s 400-yard medley with a time of 3:46.09.

Baker claimed the only, top three finish for an individual with a time of 4:57.73 in the men’s 500-yard freestyle.

Centenary returns to action on Nov. 22 as the squads travel to the Trinity Shootout.
