SHERMAN, Texas – The Centenary softball team claimed the Saturday doubleheader at Austin College bouncing the Roos  7-2 in both contests. The wins improve the Ladies to 4-18 and 4-6 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Amber Smith paced the Maroon and White with five hits in seven trips to the plate. The freshman also drove in three runs which was second most on the team. Abbie Woods led the Ladies with four RBI in the twinbill.

Lynsi Unruh logged both wins in the circle posting a sub 1.00 ERA allowing four runs on eight hits in 12.0 innings of work. The senior fanned nine and walked seven. Laura Perriloux tossed a pair of innings giving up two hits and striking out one batter.

The Ladies used a four-run, third inning to secure the victory in the opener after falling behind 2-0. Cadie Hancock drove in two of the runs in the frame with a triple to right field scoring Mookie Allison and Whitney Patterson. Hancock later scored on an Erin Crites single to cap the inning.

Woods logged a RBI single in the sixth with Smith driving in two runs in the seventh to capture the victory.

Unruh fanned five in the complete-game win while allowing four hits.

After fighting to a 2-1 lead through the first four frames in the opener, Centenary used a five-run, fifth to capture the victory. Woods capped the inning with a two-run, single. Crites and Smith also logged RBI in the frame.

AC added its only other run in the bottom of the inning, but wasn’t enough to pick up the split in the doubleheader.

Unruh struck out four in the five innings of work allowing the two runs on four hits. Perriloux tossed the final two innings allowing two hits and logging a strikeout.

First pitch of the Sunday doubleheader is slated for Noon.
