SHREVEPORT, La. – The newest members of NCAA Division III, Centenary College of Louisiana, opens the 2014-15 season on Friday, Aug. 29. The Centenary men’s and women’s soccer teams open their seasons at LeTourneau University with the Ladies kicking at 3 p.m. and the Gents to follow at 5 p.m. The Ladies volleyball program opens its season with the first of four matches at the Austin College Invitational. The Maroon and White open with McMurry at 4:00 p.m. and close out the evening against Dallas Christian at 8:00 p.m.

Women’s Soccer Notes:

The Ladies hold a 3-1 advantage on LETU in the all-time series and 1-0 on the YellowJackets’ home turf. Today’s contest marks the fifth meeting in the series between LeTourneau and Centenary. The Ladies hold a 3-1 advantage after dropping their first decision to the YellowJackets last season (3-2) in Shreveport.

Centenary returns three of its top scoring leaders for the 2014 season in Carly Slovensky, Madison Alexander and Laurie Priftis. Slovensky scored six goals to lead the team last season. Alexanders’s three goals sat tied for second with Priftis’ two goals fourth on the team.

Centenary is 11-10-1 in season openers. Today’s contest marks the first road season opener since 2012 a 1-1 tie at Schreiner. The Ladies are 2-3-1 in season openers away from Mayo Field and 8-5 at home.

Men’s Soccer Notes:

Today’s contest marks the 21st meeting in the series between LeTourneau and Centenary. The Gents hold an 18-2 advantage despite falling in the last two outings against LETU (2012, 2013). Centenary is 5-1 on the road against the YellowJackets and 13-1 at Mayo Field.

Emmett Rutkowski enters his first season at the helm of the Gents replacing David Orr who coached the Gents for the past six seasons and moved over to take charge of the Ladies’ program.

Centenary returns three of its top scoring leaders for the 2014 season in Chris Berrios, Jeremy Klespis and Kellan Klaus. The trio each scored two goals in 2013. Rylan Whan and Austin Andrews return in goal for the Gents after carrying most of the load between the pipes last season as freshmen. Whan led the team in saves with 68 while Andrews recorded 62 saves. Whan added a .739 save percentage with Andrews tallying a .697.

Volleyball Notes:

Caley Carter begins her second season at the helm of the Centenary volleyball team. Carter led the Ladies to a 5-28 mark last season including the program’s first SCAC win in school history a five-set match against Austin College.

The 2014 edition of Ladies features seven new faces to the roster including six freshmen and a junior. The Maroon and White return seven players from last season with Chelsea Petska standing as the lone senior on the roster.

Centenary is 2-1 all-time against its Austin College Invitational opponents. The Ladies hold a 2-0 advantage against Sul Ross State. The Maroon and White’s one setback came against McMurry in the lone meeting between the two schools.
