MARSHALL, Texas – The Centenary men’s soccer team opened the Emmett Rutkowski era with a 5-3 victory at East Texas Baptist on Saturday evening. Four different Gents (1-0) scored in the contest led by two from Ivann Amaya.

Amaya put the Maroon and White on the board in the 18th minute off an assist from Jason Aiken. Amaya added his second score in the 84th minute to insure the season opening victory.

Aiken joined Amaya in the scoring placing the second goal on the board for Centenary in the 21st minute. Three minutes later Kellan Klaus extended the lead to 3-0 with an unassisted score.

ETBU answered back tying the contest as Christian Garcia knotted a hat trick with goals in the 49th, 57th and 64th minute.

Hunter Paul placed the Maroon and White back in front, 4-3, in the 71st minute off Aiken’s second assist of the contest.

Centenary proved efficient offensively scoring five goals on nine shots during the outing.

Kaleb Behm played 83 minutes in net for the Gents recording a pair of saves in his Centenary debut. Rylan Whan finished the contest between the pipes recording a save in the contest.

Centenary returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 6 as the Gents host Howard Payne. Kick is slated for 6 p.m.
