SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary women’s soccer team’s 2014 home debut was foiled as the Ladies (0-3) fell 3-1 to Wiley College on Tuesday evening on a wet Mayo Field. Wiley improved 1-0 on the season.

The Maroon and White gathered its lone goal on a penalty kick that deflected back to Marissa Hughes who found the back of the net for her first goal of the season. Hughes’ goal came in the 74th minute and cut the Lady Wildcats’ lead in half.

Hughes led the squad with four of the teams’ 10 shots in the affair including placing three on goal. Emily Duet added a pair of shots both coming on goal. Madison Alexander, MK Robertson, Hannah Jo Wright and Meaghan Rogers each supplied an attempt.

WC regained its two goal advantage in the 88th minute as Nahim Irias took an assist from Adriana Rosas to collect her first score of the night.

Erica Coker received the loss in goal for the Ladies. Coker totaled all 90 minutes in the net recording three saves against the three Wildcat scores.

Natalie Martinez tallied five saves against the lone goal in the victory for WC.

The Lady Wildcats dented the scoreboard in the first 12 seconds of the match as Miriam Garza scored of an assist. Leslie Cruz picked up the second goal for the Purple and White in the 31st minute.

Wiley attempted 11 shots on the evening with six coming on target.

Centenary returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 6 as the Ladies host Howard Payne. Kick is slated for 4 p.m.
