SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary men’s soccer team moved to its best start since 1996 with a 1-0 win over Howard Payne on Saturday evening. The Gents are 2-0 for the first time since the Glenn Evans’ squad knocked off Alabama A&M and South Alabama. HPU falls to 0-4 on the season.

In a tightly contest and physical outing, Kellan Klaus posted the only score at the 43’ mark. The goal was one of two shot attempts taken by the senior in the contest, which tied for the team-lead alongside freshman Ivann Amaya.

Rylan Whan logged his second win of the season warning off seven of the Yellow Jackets’ 17 shots in the contest.

Centenary attempted seven shots in the contest placing three on goal.

Kevin Ruiz paced HPU offensively with four of the Jackets’ 17 shots on the night. Dominic Gilles and Jacob Moore tied for second on the team with three shots each.

Allan Chehadi (0-2) played on 90 minutes in goal recording two saves in the losing effort.

Centenary returns to action on Friday, Sept. 12 as the Gents travel to Colorado Springs, Colo., for two contests. The Maroon and White open against host Colorado College in a non-conference affair at 5 p.m. central and close out the trip on Saturday, Sept. 13 against Concordia (MN) College at 3 p.m.
