SHREVEPORT, La. – A Hannah Jo Wright penalty kick in overtime lifted the Centenary women’s soccer team to its first victory of the season as the Ladies (1-5) turned back Hendrix College 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at Mayo Field. Hendrix fell to 4-2 on the season.

Wright, a native of Arlington, Texas, connected on the PK four minutes into the extra period and drilled a shot past Warriors’ goalkeeper Jordan Rausch to clinch the win for the Maroon and White. The goal was the first of the season for Wright, who attempted a team-leading two shots on the day, both coming on goal.

Madison Alexander notched the Ladies first goal of the day. The junior from Keller, Texas, posted an unassisted goal in the 41’ to place Centenary up 1-0 at the break. The score was Alexander’s first of the season.

Erica Coker (1-4) claimed the win in net. The sophomore played the final 55 minutes in between the pipes garnering three saves despite allowing the lone Hendrix goal in the 84’. Lauren Cullen drew the start in goal for the Ladies recording two saves in the first 45 minutes of action.

Rausch tallied two saves against the two goals in the complete-match loss for Hendrix.

The Maroon and White attempted five shots on the day, but placed four on goal. Hendrix doubled up the Ladies’ shot attempts with six being placed on target. Samantha Lallas paced the Black and Orange with five shots.

Centenary returns to action on Friday, Sept. 19 as the Ladies travel to Texas Lutheran. Kick for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener is slated for 4 p.m.
