SHREVEPORT, La. – For the fifth time this season the Centenary men’s soccer team extended a match into extra time as the Gents (4-5-3, 1-5-3 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) fought to a 2-2 tie with Southwestern University on Sunday afternoon.

The outcome is the fourth time on the campaign a contest has traveled into double overtime and the occasion for a deadlock draw.  

Following a scoreless, opening 45 minutes, Ivann Amaya pasted his first of two goals on the scoreboard. Amaya, who leads the team with six scores this season, connected on his first in the 51’. The freshman’s second score on the day came in 76’ after SU tied the affair in the 66’.

Nick Petterson knotted the outing in 84’ as he took an assist from Andres Carreno-Mendez. Carreno-Mendez also logged the first goal for the Black and Gold off an assist from Christian Lopez.

Rylan Whan (3-4-2) recorded 12 saves for Centenary in the draw. Travis Carmichael (5-6-1) totaled just one save for the Pirates.

Amaya led Centenary with three of its 10 shots on the day. Jason Aiken and Gabe Zahm each recorded two attempts in the contest.

Centenary returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 14 as the Gents host Hendrix. Match time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
