Ladies, Gents sweep Hendrix in home opener

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary swim teams logged a combined 14 event triumphs as the Maroon and White swept Hendrix College on Saturday afternoon in its home opener. The Gents picked up a 96-50 victory while the Ladies earned a 99-83 win.

Chelsea Russell and Alex Taylor picked up two wins each in the pool on the women’s side with Zack Harrison claiming a pair of victories on the men’s side.

Taylor recorded a time of 11:49.95 to earn the win in the 1,000 freestyle and later posted a time of 5:55.64 in the 500 free. Russell registered a victory in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:01.95 and followed with a time of 1:14.38 in the 100 breaststroke for her second win of the day.

Harrison claimed the title in the men’s 50 freestyle with a time of 22.63 and later picked up a win in the 500 free with a time of 5:07.40.

Kayla Thornhill added to the women’s title total with a 2:06.44 in the 200 freestyle while Caitlyn Faulhaber posted a time of 26.41 to win the 50 freestyle. Christy Wolterman gave the Ladies their seventh win of the meet with a 1:10.36 in the 100 backstroke.

The men’s 200 medley relay opened with a win as Anthony McDonald, Kellen Bullock, Arash Ataei and Greg Simmons combined for a time of 1:46.48. Ataei added an individual crown in the 200 medley with a time of 2:10.67.

Andrew Borel claimed the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:52.73 as Juan Tapia added a win with a time of 57.43 in the 100 butterfly. Beau Montgomery gathered the final event title for the Gents with a 49.23 in the 100 free.

Centenary returns to action Saturday, Nov. 15 as they host Southwestern. The dual meet is slated for 11 a.m.
