KERRVILLE, Texas – The Centenary softball team dropped a doubleheader at Schreiner University to open Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play. The Ladies (3-3, 0-2 SCAC) were upended in the final game of the twinbill 7-6 after falling 10-2 in the opener.

Cadie Hancock led the Ladies at the dish going 6-for-7 on the day with a RBI.

After battling back in the sixth inning to take a 4-2 lead into the final frame, the Maroon and White expanded its lead to 6-2 with two runs in the seventh. Carissa Herndon and Anna Dunn each logged RBI singles in the final at-bat to provide cushion heading into the bottom of the frame.

Schreiner (2-2, 2-0 SCAC) answered with five runs in its last trip to the plate to snatch the win. Reanna Garces provided the game-winning hit with a RBI single to score Dominique Sandoval, who also recorded a RBI in the inning. Sydney Christopher started the scoring with a 2-RBI single to pull the Mountaineers within two runs.

Hancock went 3-for-4 in the outing with her lone RBI while Dunn was 3-for-4 at the dish and Herndon going 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.

Haley Miller took the loss in the circle with 6.1 innings pitched and allowing seven runs – six earned – with a strikeout and walk.

In the opener, Schreiner used 14 hits and four Centenary errors to score its 10 runs. The Mountaineers posted two runs in the first, four in the second and a run in the third to jump out to a 7-1 lead. Centenary added a run in the fourth, but SU answered with three additional runs to grab the win.

Laura Perriloux took the loss allowing six runs – three earned – on five hits. The sophomore added a strikeout. Melanie Wilson pitched the final 4.1 innings with four runs allowed – three earned – on nine hits with a walk.

Centenary returns to action on Sunday, March 8 at 12 p.m. in the second doubleheader at Schreiner.
