SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary softball team swept a doubleheader from Austin College on Saturday afternoon. The Ladies battled back in the second affair to claim a 7-6, eight-inning affair after a 6-5 win in the opener.

The Maroon and White picked up multiple-hit efforts from a pair of freshmen on the day. Michelle Tasin led the squad with six hits, including a season-high four in the second outing while Anna Dunn tallied five hits with three also in the second contest.

Centenary used three homeruns in the first contest to spur a win – snapping an eight-game skid. The trio of homers in the game is the most in the Division III era for the program as it surpassed the previous total of two in a single-game set in 2013 against Millsaps.

Dunn collected the first homerun in the third inning to clip the ‘Roos’ lead in half. After Austin College answered with four runs in the fourth, Tasin provided a solo homer in the fourth to narrow the deficit t two runs. Carissa Herndon added the final one of the day in fifth, a two-run shot that scored Dunn, to prove the difference in the contest. Dunn pulled the lead to within a run earlier with a RBI-double that scored Lizzie LaFisca.

Laura Perilloux (2-8) logged the win in the circle. The freshman garnered two strikeouts in 3.1 innings as she held AC without a hit or run in relief.

In the second outing, the Ladies again trailed – this time 6-3 - heading into their final at-bat, but a three-run, inning knotted the contest at 6-all and forced into extra innings. Tasin, Codi Coghlan and Raney Mixon each recorded RBI-doubles to send the contest into extra innings.

After leaving a runner stranded in the top of the eighth, Cadie Hancock led off the home-half of the inning with a double down the leftfield line. Two batters later, Haley Miller delivered a RBI single through the right side to score Hancock and clinch the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference sweep – the first since March 29, 2014 when the squad took a twinbill from on the Roos’ homefield.

Miller (4-2) picked up her fourth win of the season on the rubber. The freshman pitched 5.1 innings as she allowed two runs on seven hits with three strikeouts in relief.

Centenary hosts Austin College in the final doubleheader of the series on Sunday. First pitch is slated for Noon.
