Gents 13th after first day at Rhodes-Mirimichi Spring Classic

MILLINGTON, Tenn . – The Centenary men’s golf team shot an opening round score of 316 to sit 13th at the Rhodes College, Mirimichi Spring Classic. The final round of the Classic is scheduled for Tuesday with a start time of 8 a.m.

Jamie Gibson shot a score of 76 to finish tied for 27th to open the Classic while Reese Chance was two strokes back and tied for 41st. Gibson was four over par with Chance plus-6.

Cory Constanza shot an 80 in the first round to sit tied for 53rd with Larry Balthazar tied for 65th and two strokes back of his teammate. Jeffrey Scott, in his first tournament of the season, shot an 85 to round out the Gents and finish the first day tied for 70th.

The host Lynx lead the team leader board with a 287. Wittenberg University is three strokes back in second with McMurry University in third with a score of 295. Rhodes’ Scott Hamel and Sewanee’s Saer Brown sit atop the individual leaders with a 69 (-1) for the opening round. Rhodes’ Luke Malabchuk and Conor Pocino are tied for third with a 70 (-2).

The tournament is the final of the regular season for Centenary as it prepares for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships at Vaaler Creek Golf Club in Blanco, Texas. The dates for the SCAC Championships is April 20-21.
